Pumas Win Shootout To Capture Winter Blast Classic

Corsicana Pumas goalkeeper Fredi Martinez (picture diving after a shot) shut down Corsicana Chelsea in the box as he blocked the last penalty kick, while one of his teammates scored the decisive goal in a shootout during the Corsicana Lady Tigers Soccer teams Winter Blast Classic tournament championship game held on Sunday, February 7, 2010, at IOOF Park.

The Pumas defeated D. Penon and Guerreros in route to their championship victory, while Chelsea made it to the final game with wins over Liverpool, D. Penon and Chivas.

The Pumas remain one of the strongest teams in the area after winning their division in the 17^th Street Fall League, and finishing second in the league championship behind Buffalo in December.

They were able to pull off the victory despite not being at full strength as some of their players filled in for other teams over the past two Sundays.

Money raised from the tournament will go towards buying equipment for the girls soccer programs at CHS.
