Run-Offs For JP & Commissioner Races

Two Run-off Elections Scheduled for April 13

Two local races typified the tight results that were expected across the state during today primary elections. In the Republican Justice of the Peace, Pct. 3 race, Jackie Freeland, with 291 votes, will face off in a run-off election on April 13 against Stephen G. Andrews, who garnered a close 280 votes. Joshua Tackett earned 210 votes and Tina Marie Fagan brought in 95 votes.

In the second run-off race, in the Democratic race for County Commissioner, Pct. 2, Nathan Carter had a slight lead, 331 votes, to Bill Griggs’ 317 votes. However, without a 50% majority, the race will go to the run-off. “I am glad and disappointed at the same time,” Nathan Carter said on election night, disappointed that a run-off would be necessary. “I’m going to work harder and listen more and try to get out there a little more,” he added. “I appreciate all the voters that came my way,” he concluded, “and if you didn’t, I’ll be coming to see ya!” The third candidate in that race, Jacklyn R. Copeland, brought in 58 votes.

James Olsen, the Republican incumbent County Commissioner, Pct. 2, easily defeated his opponent in the primary, David Garrett, 649 votes to 269 votes. Olsen will now face Sherman Putman in the general election in November.
